Intraoral Digital Imaging

A full mouth series of digital radiographs is recommended and required for all new patients and should be repeated every 3-5 years. Bitewing radiographs, to visualize contact areas between teeth, and periapical radiographs, to view roots and areas below teeth, are taken at all recall visits. These radiographs are recommended 1-2 times per year on a rotating basis.

A full mouth series of radiographs has equal radiation exposure to 1 day of natural sources (sun, food, etc.), which deems them no greater risk than normal daily activities.

The need for and interval of radiographs depends upon each individual's dental health needs and history. A thorough review of your medical and dental history, an examination, your age, signs, symptoms and risk of dental disease will help your Dentist and Hygienist determine the most appropriate interval for you.
